最开始人们也设想采用两个声槽两根唱针分别记录和播放左右两个声道，这样的一个显著好处是分离度高，但是结构复杂，与此同时还设想了其他一些双声道立体声方式。最终国际上统一采用45°/45°调制方式，这种方式也与单声道兼容。
