There are good reasons for a heavy 300B tube amp.
Output Transformer - the primary inductance should be large so that it would have good low frequency response. Higher inductance requires bigger the core.
Power Transformer - the single ended amplifier runs in Class A at 100% duty. Therefore, bigger transformer will not generate too much heat.
Filtering choke - the amp employs choke filter sounds better. Larger the choke, the better ripple rejection it would have. I use double PI - CLCLC filtering for the B+ to minimize the hum noise from the B+.
If I would buy a tube amp, surely I would believe heavier the better.
