Capacitor replacements with Sanyo Polymer OS-CON's for Digital. Stock Elna Cerafine for Audio are already in place so they weren't removed.
Changes done to the clock circuit are two Silver Mica capacitors mounted closest to NPC SM-5872 DAC underside of the PCB.
Also the Crystal outer metal case is grounded and a few other mods done to the DAC as well.
The AC inlet is filtered for RFI now using a choke the round white thing far upper left side inside view.
Added chokes to all voltage inputs to the DAC and OP-Amps for cleaner DC.
Removing the muting transistors and output capacitors help open up the sound a bit and you'll here more definition.
The DC blocking output capacitors were not necessary since there is very little DC voltage emitted from the two OP-Amp output pins no. 7 anyway.
There is one drawback to removing the muting transistors as you will hear a pop noise through your speakers when you turn it on,
So its best to have the volume down low or turn the CD player on first before turning on your amplifier or receiver.
HDAM circuit is bypassed so only the two L/R Burr Brown OPA-2604AP OP-Amps which are in sockets are then connected directly to RCA jacks.
The HDAM circuit hampered the sound quality so its not needed. Also by removing it from the voltage supplies reduces power consumption.
The two large 3300uF Nover filtering capacitor metal cases are dented but doesn't affect there operation or specific values.
This CDP was modified for Vacuum Tube outputs and was used more for testing purposes. Since then the tube circuits were removed and
OP-Amps are now being used. It does not have any issues it plays fine and sounds great.
The cabinet has Dynamat and rubber added to eliminate unwanted vibrations. |
