The film presents a classic power amplifier design developed in the late 1960s by John Linsley Hood (1925-2004), a distinguished British engineer and electronics designer in the audio industry. Many electronics engineers were brought up on this design and the design was probably copied in the hundreds of thousands copies, if not millions, around the world.
My version of this project is based on the assembly technology used in Hollow State amplifiers, i.e. spatial assembly.
The uniqueness of this amplifier lies in its simple circuit and the use of bipolar transistors still available on the market or their equivalents.
In the project I used the LRS-200-36 switching power supply from Wagney (WAW). You can use any other switching power supply to power this system, even a desktop one with a voltage of 36V and a current preferably exceeding 5A.
The film uses materials from "Wireless World" and "Electronic World" magazines.
The parameters I obtained for 8 Ohms load
(36V power supply, quiescent current 1.2A per channel):
Output power (without clipping) 2x16W R.M.S
Frequency response 16Hz...90kHz (+/-0.1dB)
S/N: less than 85dB (ST1700B)
THD 1W, 1kHz 0.025%
THD 16W 1kHz 0.6%
Gain approx. 22dB
The film uses fragments of the following songs:
Yello - "Electrified II" album "Toy" - Deluxe Edition publisher: Universal
Kraftwerk - "We Are the Robots" - publisher: Kling Klang, EMI, Capitol
Better Than Chockolate - "Better Than Chockolate" / Apple iMovie
Klaus Hellstern - "Curly Wurly" / Apple iMovie
Freckleland - "Why" / Apple iMovie
Root Basket - "Adrenalize" / Apple iMovie
Taylor McCalm - "3Xtreme" / Apple iMovie
Judson Crane - "In it to Win" / Apple iMovie
Hans Zimmer - "Inner Glow" / Apple iMovie
Repeat Repeat - "Plugged In" / Apple iMovie |
